Family friendly, excellent food, lovely staff

There were fifteen of us including two little ones, a busy Saturday evening, rugby had been on. Not a good result for Wales.
Despite this we received a very warm welcome!
The Lion had set aside a semi private dining area for our party which was great because the two little ones did want to play with the toys that they had left out and this kept them occupied.
The table setting was lovely and we were seated quickly.
We were offered complimentary tasters of freshly made tomato and basil soup accompanied by warm, very fresh brown and whitd crusty bread and butter. Delicious.
There is a wait of approximately 30 minutes for the mains, it does state this on the menu. As the meals are freshly cooked then understandable.
All I can say is that all of us thought the food was cooked to perfection; presented beautifully; hot plates and right portion sizes. It’s not cheap and it’s not expensive. Fairly priced for good quality food.
Absolutely well worth a visit, a gem of a find, you won’t be disappointed.

Amazing – a hidden gem!

We were staying in the area on holiday and visited The Lion for an evening meal. Wow! What a top class meal we had. Beautifully cooked and presented. We were not disappointed. Starters, main and dessert were all fantastic. Best meal we have had for a long time. A must.

Warm welcome and Excellent food

We were a family party of 9 staying locally (within walking distance) as a get together before Christmas and had already booked a table for food on the Saturday Evening over the phone. After a lovely walk on the Saturday morning along the river in the cold we decided to call in on the lunch time for a drink and check the place out. The fire was burning and were given a warm welcome. Several drinks followed around the fire before a walk back to our accommodation to chill before returning for our evening meal. Between us we had the Lamb, Duck & Belly pork. Everyone said how great the food was, my belly pork was so tender and moist but crispy on top. Service was great too even though the place was busy. Any one of our group will definitely return and certainly recommend !!

Sunday Lunch

Found the Lion Hotel through trip advisor. I needed to book somewhere for lunch and I live over 2hrs away, so I wasn’t familiar with the area. – Despite the distance, I will DEFINITELY be going back there. Everything about the meal was perfect and delicious. The staff were friendly and professional, service was very quick. I really couldn’t fault it.
I’d recommend booking. I don’t know what it’s like during the week, but I think you’d have trouble getting a table as a walk in on Sunday.

This place is about 5 mins walk from a holiday cottage we had rented for a week in mid wales. On our first night we thought “let’s try the local pub” – this was an absolute revelation (and we’ll be visiting again before the week is out!)

Service and food are high-standard fine-dining, but in a more relaxed and informal atmosphere. There is nothing words can say about the experience it was fantastic, local fayre, prepared and cooked to perfection. The best fillet steak I’ve had for a very long time, pork belly with a thin but crispy crackling making it enjoyable to eat without being difficult to eat.

Desserts were amazing.

Only criticism has to be that they charge for table water (some of the charge goes to charity and the option is there for sparkling).

Bill for mains, desserts and drinks came to about £28/head, which is amazing value for food of this standard.

We booked our table tonight to take part in the steak night offer and it didn’t disappoint, nothing whatsoever to complain about, if I could give more than 5 stars I most definitely would! Thank you for an evening of amazing food and exceptional service in a lovely warm atmosphere

Had a beautiful meal with family on 27/10/16. We had a very warm and friendly welcome as we walked through the door, the staff couldn’t do enough for us, as one of our party is disabled and walks with sticks. Lovely atmosphere, fabulous food. Would definitely recommend, and will be going again ourselves.

We visited having been recommended the restaurant by Carla from glyngynwydd Cottages where we are staying (excellent by the way ) as a good venue for excellent food for a family celebration. What an excellent tip. A truly fantastic place with superb food and perfectly attentive service.

Wow! We went to the Lion Hotel restaurant for a family meal to celebrate my son’s birthday. All 9 of us had a main meal and a dessert and enjoyed every mouthful. The waitresses were also very friendly, helpful and polite. A wonderful evening was had by all. Will definitely go again.
